Changes in reproductive
technology and
public attitudes are contributing to the emergence of a radically new
family
form – the planned lesbian and gay family. Due to the growth and
visibility
of these families, forensic psychologists are increasingly likely to
encounter
them in the family law arena. This article outlines emerging practice
opportunities
and provides a starting point for forensic practitioners who want to
familiarize
themselves with relevant issues. It summarizes contemporary scholarship
regarding parenting styles, gender roles, and child outcome, outlines
the
legal status of sexual minority families, and alerts practitioners to
issues
that are frequently raised in high-conflict custody disputes involving
these families.
